In five seasons, we have lost 43 days of ice on Carson Lake, and if this is a trend which continues, we should be ice free about 2035. Please review the latest trends for the number of days of ice.
May 21 2023
Year | Ice ON | Ice Off | Number of Days of Ice |
2022/23 | Jan 9 | April 24 | 106 |
2021/22 | Dec 24 | April 21 | 119 |
2020/21 | Dec 17 | April 9 | 114 |
2019/20 | Dec 18 | May 1 | 136 |
2018/19 | Dec 9 | May 6 | 149 |
In seasons previous to the latest one, there were many ice rinks on Carson, 13 in 2021/22 for example, and two curling rinks. In 2022/23 there was “one”, and it was short-lived. Also in the latest season there were 12 to 15 fish huts enjoying this sport. In 2022/23 there were “two”, and they were pop up type. One collapsed due to heavy snow and was only there for a short time. The other was only out for the Family Day weekend and was being chased by several people, on foot, trying to catch it as the wind carried it across the ice.
