- Opening Remarks: Wendy Wolak offered welcoming remarks including acknowledging sponsors, Mayor David Shulist and Councilor Mary Blank. She introduced the current board members and summarized the work we did last year, including making our organization bylaws ONCA compliant. She then gave a land acknowledgement.
- Mayor Shulist’s Address: the mayor read our displayed banner, thanked our organization for being stewards, thanked Wendy Wolak for all she does and reminded us to contact him if we see anything of importance to the area. He then spoke about the Bark Lake waste site: there are approximately 9 years left in its lifespan. Extending/expanding it will cost money. The mayor also spoke about the roads in our township that need repair. Inflation on goods and services is up 20-25% so we have some difficult decisions to make. He concluded by saying that he was appointed, not elected due to Mayor Willmer’s death. He will try to be good and fair and his ears are always open. Questions were raised about the Bark Lake Mall.

- CTLG Bylaw Amendment in Compliance with the Ontario Not For Profit Corporations Act (ONCA)
Wendy Wolak stated that the Board of directors reviewed our bylaws
last fall and ensured that they were compliant with ONCA

approved as written

- Fundraising Opportunities
Kelly Stanutz presented an update on funds raised through our
CTLG bottle drive initiative and opened a discussion on potential
expansion of this fundraiser.
- What Matters to Members?
Wendy Wolak updated members on Water Quality, Invasive Species
and Shoreline Enhancement. She was unable to present 2024 data
as the Lake Partner Program was currently suspended. She
presented our new Boat Wake Awareness signs and invited
members to take one if they need one. She stated that 12% of our
membership felt our lakes need improved fishing. There was some
discussion around septic inspections. Members declined mandatory
septic inspections.
- Ice Cover Update
Frank Burchat presented ice on and off dates from the last 5 years.
Positive trends this past year with earlier ice on and later ice off were
noted. He presented an update on our Adopt a Hwy initiative. The
team collected 189 beer cans in 2.1 k
New Business
- Conservation Through Education
Wendy Wolak presented a Nature Discovery Backpack to Natalie
Barrington, CEO at the Madawaska Valley Public Library. The ‘water
quality testing’ themed backpack will be on loan at the library. Wendy
displayed each item in the bag. The CTLG purchased this one, but
TD Friends of the Environment grants through Watersheds Canada
will help us to purchase two more next year (different themes).
Natalie gratefully accepted the backpack and applauded the CTLGs
commitment to community education.
- Announcements
Volunteer Recognition was given to George Rothschild for his time
and effort given during our bottle drives
Upcoming Social Events: Tina Ditoro announced that out annual
summer social will take place on Saturday, July 19 chez Jonathon
and Annabel Marsh (70 Chris Mullin Lane).
Al Best has helped to organize the Interlakes Meeting at the Paul
Yakabuskie Center in Barrys Bay on August 16. Some CTLG
directors will be attending. Other potential social event ideas included
a group swim and a ‘put on your life jacket in the water’ contest. Tina
asked anyone who wished to help organize social events please
contact her.
